2015 RUN FOREST RUN |
All the information you have been literally dying to have since you registered two months ago, here on one page.
RACE MORNING The race goes off at approximately 9:30 a.m., as it does every year. I bet all you "this race starts too late" complainers are going to be pumped for that extra sleep Saturday morning. Maybe even have an extra drink on Friday night? PARKING Please enter the Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve from the Ridge Road entrance, and proceed down the hill. Take your first right turn and park. You are parking about 50 feet from the start and finish line. You are also permitted to bike or run to the race from your home. After what happened in 2009, please DO NOT attempt to rollerblade to the race. RACE PACK You can pick up your race pack starting at about 8:30 a.m.; any earlier and you may be forced into service. Come to think of it, there is nothing aside from a bib and your shirt or hoodie inside. Toss the shirt in your car, pin on your bib and PRESTO: you're ready to run. No check in, no signatures, just show up and go. COURSE MAP Now that wouldn't be any fun, would it? You enter Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve at the prescribed spot and exit through another clearly marked location. First-timers fear not! We will have the course well marked and marshals on course for your assistance. I've only gone off-track once. We will have water at the 2-mile mark as usual. You know what? Maybe we will change the course a bit this year. You guys are getting to comfortable. RACE TIMING Now you guys know this is just for fun, right? I do hope to see a few of you try to beat out your running buddies come that finish line, but largely, this is a laid back field. To that end, I don't use a professional timing service. So PLEASE, pin your bib on the front of your shirt so it is clearly visible to the time keepers at the end of the race. They will also need to grab your pull-tag from the bottom of the bib you have affixed to what I can only assume is your best running shirt. AWARDS We have new wooden medals for first, second and third place for both men and women, with no age-group designations or awards. It looks to be a pretty fast field this year, so if you plan on making the podium, you better bring your racing flats. I still haven't placed. RACE PHOTOGRAPHY We don't have a formal plan for race photography this year, so it turns our your Aunt Donna CAN do something to help you get ready for the race! Have her, or anyone else you can lure into service, bring a camera to the woods, and you can even snap a few photos yourself, if you would. Send all the good ones to [email protected]. Thanks in advance. POST RACE We will have water and pizza available for you, compliments of John Brinkman and Mark Madison / Fifth Quarter, respectively. We will also likely have a bonfire going, as it looks to be a bit chilly Saturday morning. WASHROOMS There are washrooms available about 30 feet from the start and finish lines. After complaints last year, we added washrooms for women AND men this year. I think this was a great idea, personally. RESULTS I will email you your results on Saturday or Sunday. Maybe Monday? We use a pull tag system which takes a minute to really pull together, so if you absolutely need to know your time literally seconds after you finish, may I suggest wearing a watch? If you don't have a running watch, bring your iPhone or iPod. If all else fails, run with me and I will tell you how long it took us to finish. QUESTIONS? Come on, more questions? Email me, or harness the power of the internet and comment on our Facebook page. I look forward to seeing you Saturday. |
